He Is In G.A.T.E. Now…

Dear David,

When we came to you this last Spring, we were confused and didn’t know what we could do to help Derek. At that time, Derek was 8 years old and in third grade. Since he had started school, we were told by the teachers that “there was something wrong with him” and that he needed to be tested for ADD or ADHD.

I believed that there was something else going on, but didn’t know what. We definitely knew that he is very bright!! Roaming around on the Internet, I located some information on Dyslexia. The more I researched, the more positive I was that he has Dyslexia. I approached the school, and they did some testing for Resource, but he didn’t qualify. I had him tested by an outside psychologist, and he verbally told me that Derek has Dyslexia, but that wasn’t what he wrote in his report!! I was at a total loss.

Then one day, I found the Davis web site, and luckily, we found you!! We were nervous about bringing Derek, because we didn’t know what to expect. However, you immediately put us at ease, and the way you worked with Derek was amazing!! Don and I could not have been happier, and Derek enjoyed the week that he spent with you. He said the work was hard, but I think it was very eye-opening for him and esteem-lifting to realize that he really does have a gift that can be challenging at times!! He never believed that he is smart, and that is finally changing!! We can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done. It’s now up to us and to Derek to continue the work. We have worked through almost 60 of the trigger words in clay, and that does seem to have made a difference for Derek. We didn’t have any sudden change, and we didn’t expect any. We know this is a process, and a lot is up to us!!

He is now 9 years old, and in fourth grade. The teacher that he has this year is very open to working with us and making modifications for him, and she is the first one that has told us that she agrees that Derek is very bright!! He is in G.A.T.E. now, also. The work is still very challenging, and we still need to stay on top of the school. The last parent/teacher conference that we had we wanted to make sure that she completely understood what Derek needs, and we honestly couldn’t believe that you attended the conference with us!! That helped immensely, we can’t thank you enough!! Derek as just returned back on track after being off for a month, so we will keep you posted about his progress!

Don and I cannot say enough about the Davis program, and about you!! You brought us hope for Derek at a time when we had just about run out of it!! I know that Derek has a struggle ahead of him, especially in Middle School and High School, but I believe that he can make it, thanks to you and to the Davis Program!! We will be returning Derek to you for the math program in the future, because that is a weak are for him. We just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate all that you’ve done for our son. Your follow-up has been great, and it helps keep us on track!

Thanks again, and we will keep you posted!!

Sincerely,

Don & Laurie
