There has been a lot of talk about how a person’s diet could really improve one’s ability to focus and thus improve the disorientation symptoms that dyslexics experience. My perspective on the diet is that it helps increase their threshold so that people with learning disabilities can handle more confusion and not disorient so often. I think diet can be ONE of the pieces of the puzzle in helping to overcome a learning challenge.
I have to admit that I love watching American Idol. It will be even more exciting this season because of James Durbin being autistic. In my practice, I see clients with dyslexia and autism and they are generally VERY bright, gifted and some AMAZING with their artistic skills.

As long as I can remember I struggled in school. I would do whatever I could to avoid being called on. I would study as hard as I could and still fail. Fridays in the 6th grade were absolute torture. I had to pass my spelling test or get spanked during recess. So every Friday I wore as many pairs of underwear as I could manage to put on. Amazingly, no one ever wondered why I couldn’t pass the tests; they all just assumed I was lazy.
